Apple Fun-Do
It’s Apple Time!! Celebrate the sweet taste
of fall with this cheesy twist. For more apple fun, introduce students to
apple varieties such as Northern Spys, Baldwins, or Cox’ Orange Pippins.
Students might enjoy reading The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree
by Gail Gibbons and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by
Marjorie Priceman.
Equipment:
- Electric fondue pot or saucepan on a hot
plate
- 1 small Styrofoam cup per student
Ingredients:
- 1 can cheddar cheese soup
- ½ pound Swiss cheese, grated
- Apple slices (allow 1/4 apple per student)
- Lemon juice
Directions:
1. Discuss safety rules before
beginning.
Adults only should handle the heating.
2. Pare apple slices in advance and store them in water with
lemon juice to prevent browning.
3. Pour the soup into the fondue pot.
4. Add Swiss cheese and stir until melted.
5. Pour fondue into small plastic cups.
6. Dip apple slices and enjoy!
